![]() ![]() ![]() Mia (Jane Levy) is a recovering addict who needs the care and support of her friends. We meet five twenty-somethings as they’ve met at a cabin in the woods. Those familiar with the plot of the original will be right at home here, the only difference is that there’s no character named Ash as they wanted to preserve that bit of history. How does it compare to the original? Let us find out. Still, we’ve got a new generation of actors trying their darnedest to make a career and they’ve been dealt a winning hand with this film. And maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never found any of the Evil Dead films to be scary in the least. It helped launch the careers of both Sam Raimi (who wrote and directed it) as well as Bruce Campbell and both of these men served as producers on this re-make. Switching gears, looking back at the original Evil Dead, it pretty much epitomizes what a “cult classic” is. Or, and I just thought of this, maybe it’s always been this way and I’m now old enough where I can remember the original versions of films? I’m putting too much thought into this, I do think. Oh Hollywood, will you ever learn? Why, oh why must you re-make every single film that’s ever been a success? In truth, some are better than others and maybe I do get a bit of a kick out of saying “hmmm, that wasn’t like that in the original.” Still, it seems that this ever-increasing trend is either really taking off, it’s always been around or maybe I’ve just let it bother me. Where The Evil Inside may not be shocking or even all that frightening, it is creepy and eerie enough that it may leave you feeling just a little uneasy.Plot: What’s it about? Unfortunately none of the characters were likeable enough to root for, nor evil enough to want to see dead.Ĭompared to what the audience is used to these days, the deaths are not exactly gruesome, or elaborate. This is no doubt helped by first time writer Jennifer Zhang (also playing bitchy BFF Serena), who keeps it simple and doesn’t overdo the trash talk usually associated with this genre. ![]() Sure, no Oscar nods here, but the cast each hold their own admirably. What is a pleasant surprise is the level of acting. Director Pearry Teo is no newcomer to his art, with horror Necromentia and sci-fi comic book adaptation The Gene Generation (starring Bai Ling) under his belt. Early camera work such as abstract angles and blurred long shots seem to suggest a theme that is never repeated through into the rest of the film. That said, typical teen characters are there, such as the bitchy BFFs and feuding suitors.Īs a low budget indie, the film suffers technically from numerous sound issues. EVIL INSIDE DVD MOVIEThough the premise may be likened to Final Destination, the pace seems uncomfortable, being closer to a grown up horror movie such as The Others, rather than a teen slasher. Meanwhile, Sarah is tormented by an unseen whispering entity that locks her away in the attic. ![]() EVIL INSIDE DVD WINDOWSThough why none of the group tries to open or break one of the enormous windows is the biggest mystery. With all the exits locked there is no chance of escape from the house. Knowing that each of the revellers will probably die, the rest of the film really takes us through how each of them dies, and their battle to survive each other. As the nightmare unfolds, tensions build, friendships are abandoned and murder ensues. She invites along Wesley (James Adam Lim) for company, who also invites some friends to the “party”.īefore long Sarah has more premonitions, the deaths of each of her new “friends”. When Sarah’s parents have to go away, Lucy is asked to keep her old friend company at a sleepover. Having recently returned to her home town with her parents, Sarah is reunited with her childhood friend Lucy (Sage Howard). The opening minutes of the film imply that Sarah has suffered some mental trauma, going on to show her having a premonition of death that soon happens. Originally titled Dead Inside in the US, the movie has undergone a name change for the international market. The Evil Inside follows Sarah (Hannah Ward), a teenage girl suffering mental health problems, her deathly premonitions and an impromptu party that turns into a bloodbath.
